73096 running round at Alton, 30 May 2006. This BR Standard 5 was built at Derby in 1955 as one of a class of 172 engines designed by R.A. Riddles as successors to the LMS Stanier Black Fives. 73096 was withdrawn at the end of BR steam in 1967 and stood in Barry scrapyard until 1985 when it was brought to the Mid Hants for restoration, returning to service in 1993.
