Britain’s oldest working standard gauge locomotive, Furness Railway no.20, backing into the station at Haverthwaite, 9 July 2005. Built in 1863 by Sharp, Stewart & Co of Manchester, no.20 was rebuilt as a saddletank in 1870 and worked at Barrow steelworks until 1960. it is now owned by the Furness Railway Trust and has been rebuilt as a tender engine. |
