The KESR opened in 1900 from Robertsbridge on the SE&CR Tonbridge to Hastings line to Rolvenden, with later extensions to Tenterden Town and Headcorn on the Tonbridge to Ashford line. It was built under the Light Railways Act which allowed rural railways to be built and operated more cheaply, and remained independent right through to nationalisation in 1948, being closed to passengers in 1954 and goods in 1961. The present railway runs from Tenterden Town to Bodiam, a distance of about 10 miles. Click on the links below to see the pictures.
