44422 leaving Irwell Vale for Rawtenstall, 16 Apr 2005. The 4F 0-6-0 was introduced by Sir Henry Fowler of the Midland Railway in 1911, and became the standard goods engine of the LMS. A total of 772 were built, including 5 for the Somerset & Dorset Joint line. This example was built at Derby in 1927 and is now owned by the 44422 Locomotive Fund which has recently carried out a full overhaul.
