The Bluebell line, which crosses the border between East and West Sussex, is part of the London Brighton & South Coast [LBSCR] /Southern route from Lewes to East Grinstead, running at present from Sheffield Park to Kingscote with an extension to East Grinstead in progress. This was the first standard gauge passenger line to be preserved, opening in 1960 two years after closure by BR, and has been in the hands of its current owners for longer than the Southern Railway and BR together.
